Students dressed in orange or cultural costumes for Harmony Day. In the photos, Sonya is wearing her Iranian cultural costume and Jerry is dressed in Chinese costume.

Q STATION EXCURSION

Stage 3 students went to the Old Quarantine Station at North Head as part of their History unit about immigration. They had the opportunity to explore the old buildings and learn how the site had changed over the years. They discovered how authorities tried to keep the colony safe from disease. One interesting activity involved trying to identify a migrant from their possessions, which were inside in an old suitcase. Students also made field sketches of the area.

MRS  HIBLEN’S ENGLISH GROUP

For their novel study, our students have been reading the book, ‘The Cay’ by Theodore Taylor. The novel is set in World War 2 and tells the story of a young boy who is evacuated from his home in Curaςao. After his ship is torpedoed, he finds himself on a raft with a Negro man, called Timothy and they make their way to an island. The themes of book deal with racism, survival and friendship.

To give students a feel for the story, our room was transformed into a Makers’ Space for a raft building session.
